Prosthodontics is the part of dentistry that restores and replaces teeth. Whether a tooth is badly broken, heavily filled or missing, prosthetic work helps you chew comfortably, speak clearly and feel confident about your smile.
Treatment options
- Crowns: a cap that covers and protects a weakened or heavily filled tooth, often after root canal treatment.
- Bridges: one or more replacement teeth anchored to the natural teeth on either side of a gap.
- Veneers: thin covers bonded to the front of teeth to improve their shape or colour.
- Dentures: removable partial or full sets of replacement teeth.
How it works
Most prosthetic treatment takes more than one visit. The dentist prepares the teeth, takes impressions or a model of your mouth, and fits a temporary solution while the final crown, bridge or denture is made. At the fitting visit, the bite is checked and adjusted so everything feels natural.
Looking after your restoration
Clean crowns and bridges like natural teeth, including under and around them. Remove and clean dentures daily. Regular check-ups let the dentist spot wear early and keep the surrounding teeth and gums healthy.
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. The dentist will recommend treatment after examining you.
